The Founding Journey of 100 Black Men of NewRock
The Birth of The 100 Black Men of NewRock
The 100 Black Men of NewRock was initially the initiative and desire of local Newton and Rockdale Counties leaders. The goal quickly gained momentum after Dr. Lee and Springfield Baptist Church started soliciting those interested in forming a chapter.
The first interest meeting was conducted at Springfield Baptist Church in January 2024, and the process of Chartership began. NewRock was officially chartered on May 21, 2024.
Our Vision
The Rise of The 100 Black Men of New Rock Chapter
During that meeting, the group appointed an Executive Committee to move the chapter through the chartering process. The Executive Committee quickly went to work with the intent to be ready before the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. National Convention convened in Atlanta. Through these efforts 53 men committed to the chapter that would service Newton and Rockdale County.
The initial Executive Committee was Winston Myers II - President, Charles B. Allen, Sr. - President-Elect, Charles Hardnett - Secretary, Bradford Jackson - Treasurer. Due to other obligations, Bradford Jackson had to step down and he was replaced by Tharius Dowell - Financial Secretary, and H. James Johnson III - Treasurer. During this maturation 4 at large board members were added (Elijah Porter, Nick Hathrone, Marcellus McCamy, and Michael Harris). This was a fast-paced deliberate process that had challenges that the entire organization embraced and tackled.
On June 12, 2024, at 10: 30 am at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, GA at the 38th Annual Conference of 100 Black Men of America, the 100 Black Men of New Rock Executive Committee members were officially pinned and chartered by Chairman Milton H. Jones, Jr. and his staff at their Board Meeting.
Our Founding Members
The 100 Black Men of NewRock was founded by a diverse group of community leaders dedicated to empowering and mentoring local youth. We achieved charter status in just six months, far quicker than the typical two-year process. With a minimum requirement of 25 members to start a chapter, we launched with 53.
